Ardbeg Scorch is the Ardbeg Day release for 2021, a limited edition Islay single malt bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The theme was fire. Casks were charred far beyond the usual level, filled with heavily peated Ardbeg spirit and left in Dunnage Warehouse 3, the earth-floored warehouse closest to the sea. It was released for Fèis Ìle.
Cloves lead on the nose, with sweet peat smoke, charred wood, sage and a dry ashy edge. The palate is intense, with charcoal, caramelised sweetness, clove, black pepper and herbal notes. The finish is long and smoky, with embers, tar and sweet spice.
