This is an Ardbeg Uigeadail from 1993, bottled in 2004. It is a vatting of 1993 Ardbeg matured in bourbon barrels and a number of older sherry casks, which add sweet, raisiny tones to the Ardbeg character.
The nose is deep and rounded, with chocolate caramels, barley sugar, dates, raisins and sherry, then leather and linseed oil. With water it turns to malted honeycomb and flowering currants in a smoky, fruit pudding sweetness. The palate is sweet, chewy and oily, with fruit cake, treacle and smoked, honey-roast notes. The finish is long, sweet and dry.
