This is the first single malt from Ardnahoe, the newest distillery on Islay, founded by the team behind the independent bottlers Hunter Laing & Co. It is a limited edition, matured for five years in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and at natural colour. The barley was peated, malted at Port Ellen Maltings on Islay, with a phenol content of 40ppm.
The nose combines Islay peat smoke with fruit cake, candied apples, dark cherries and a custard-like sweetness. The palate is creamy, with ginger, lemon peel and baked apples. The finish is long and smoky.
