Auchentoshan 12 Year Old is a Lowland single malt from Clydebank, just outside Glasgow, bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle. The distillery was founded in 1823.
The barley is unpeated and the spirit is distilled three times, which is unusual in Scotland. It then spends twelve years in a mix of American bourbon casks and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks.
The nose brings creme brulee, citrus, toasted almond and caramelised toffee. On the palate it is smooth and sweet, with tangerine, lime, hazelnut and vanilla, and the finish is gingery and slightly drying, with lingering nuttiness.
