Auchentoshan – Three Wood (75cl, 43%)

Auchentoshan Three Wood is a Lowland single malt from Glasgow, triple distilled and bottled at 43% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The distillery was founded in 1823 on the banks of the Clyde. The whisky is matured in three cask types in sequence: ex-bourbon American oak, then Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, then Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. The Oloroso adds dried fruit and nuttiness, and the final rest in Pedro Ximénez brings a syrupy sweetness. The nose is blackcurrant, brown sugar, orange, plum and raisin. The palate brings hazelnut with cinnamon and lemon, and a butterscotch sweetness from the sherry. The finish is fruity and smooth, with long-lasting oaky sweetness.
