Auchentoshan Three Wood is a Lowland single malt from the distillery near Glasgow, known for triple distillation. It is bottled at 43% ABV.
The whisky is matured first in ex-bourbon casks, then finished in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and finally in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Those three woods give the expression its name, and the sherry casks give it a rich golden-brown colour.
The nose brings blackcurrant, brown sugar, orange peel, plum and raisin, with a mellow sherry sweetness. On the palate are fruit syrup, prunes, roasted hazelnut and butterscotch with a little cinnamon. The finish is fresh and fruity, with lasting oaky sweetness.
