Backbone Big Bash is a blend of straight rye and straight bourbon whiskeys from Backbone Bourbon Co. in Indiana, released in February 2023 as Batch No. 1. It is bottled at 55% in a 75cl bottle.
Over 90% of the blend spent between six months and two years in more than 25 types of finishing barrel, including sherry, port, rum, Islay Scotch, imperial stout, Amaro, Grand Marnier, anejo tequila and banana brandy. The blenders chose the name after the first taste, which they likened to a big party coming together in the bottle.
The nose offers dark berries, black cherry and blood orange over soft vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is dark fruit with a chocolate orange feel and winter spices. The finish lingers on cinnamon bark and clove.
