Balcones – Texas Mirador (75cl)

Balcones Mirador is a Texas single malt in a 750ml bottle, built around what the distillery calls a second-fill barrel malt profile. It is a blend of whiskies from under 2 years to almost 5 years old. All of the maturation took place in used casks, so the oak comes across much softer than in some of the distillery's other whiskies that are only half as old. The nose opens with under-ripe pear, green apple skins and flower stems, then honeysuckle and fallen leaves, before honey, brown sugar and soft suede leather. The palate brings green fruit, green tea, honey, fennel and lemongrass. The finish turns from sweetness and citrus to sandalwood, marmalade and Earl Grey tea.
