This is the Doublewood, a 12 year old Speyside single malt from Balvenie, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The name refers to its maturation in two kinds of cask, bourbon and fresh sherry.
It is the distillery's standard bottling and has become a classic.
The nose is of vanilla ice cream and sherry, soft and balanced. The palate brings sherry, candied orange and spice, perhaps cinnamon and star anise, with a creamy texture. The finish is not especially long, and dark chocolate gradually comes through.
