This is a 16 year old Speyside single malt from Balvenie, bottled at 47.6% in a 70cl bottle. It is finished in French oak casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine made from unfermented grape juice to which Cognac eau-de-vie is added before it is matured.
The nose is rich with creamy chocolate and coffee. On the palate come stewed orchard fruit and vanilla custard, then a robust, round middle of dark fruits, florals and tobacco box. The finish is hot, with layers of spice alongside the sweetness.
