Balvenie – 17 Year Old The Week of Peat (49.4%)

This is The Week of Peat, a 17 year old Balvenie bottled at 49.4% ABV. It began with Ian Millar, the distillery manager, who wanted to experiment with the profile of Balvenie. Drawing on what he learned during a trip to Islay, he ordered a batch of Speyside peat for the distillery. For one week each year, Balvenie distils a batch of peated malt. The whisky is described as having notes of honey, vanilla and citrus fruit, with an added layer of delicate smokiness.
