Balvenie 18 Year Old French Pineau Cask is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from The Balvenie in Dufftown, bottled at 47.9% in a 75cl bottle.
The spirit first matured for ten years in ex-bourbon and European oak casks. It then spent a further eight years finishing in casks from the Charentes region of France that previously held Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine. Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie and Sampling Lead George Paterson found the pairing.
The nose has toffee, smouldering oak, citrus and honey. The palate brings candied orange peel, roasted malt, vanilla, cantaloupe, lychee and apricot. The finish is long, with cereal notes, sweet tobacco and a tropical fruitiness.
