Balvenie American Oak 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from The Sweet Toast of American Oak series, bottled at 43% ABV without chill-filtration or added colour. It began as an idea from Malt Master Apprentice Kelsey McKechnie, who wanted a sweeter, fruitier Balvenie.
After 12 years in American oak, the whisky is finished in fresh, heavily toasted American oak barrels, with virgin oak barrels brought in from Kentucky for the purpose.
The nose is malty, with sweet caramel, citrus, oak, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon. Candied orange and lemon peel lead the palate, and the finish is rich and malty.
