Balvenie Toasted Oak 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt in a 750ml bottle. Whisky aged in ex-bourbon barrels was filled into virgin oak barrels brought in from Kentucky and deeply toasted at The Balvenie Cooperage.
The aim was a fruitier, sweeter Balvenie, and the idea of importing the oak came from Apprentice Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie.
Candied fruit, coconut and vanilla lead the nose, with malt, fudge and citrus. On the palate come candied orange and lemon peel, vanilla toffee, butterscotch and blossom honey, with ginger and cinnamon from the oak. Brown sugar and oak spices run through the finish.
