Banff – 1975 28 Year Old Duncan Taylor is a whisky from Banff (Speyside). Aged 28 years, bottled at 41.4% ABV, 70cl.
With a history of explosions, fires and bombings, in August 1941, a Junkers Ju-88 destroyed warehouse 12 spilling gallons of whisky in nearby fields where, rumour has it, the cows got a little tipsy - Banff distillery has one of the more unfortunate back stories of any distillery. Founded in 1824, the distillery was closed as part of the 1983 cull and was destroyed by yet another fire in 1991. Banff is most notably seen as part of Diageo’s discontinued Rare Malts range.
Duncan Taylor & Company presides over the ownership of one of the largest privately-held collections of Scotch whisky casks. Though the company’s origins lie in Glasgow as a whisky merchant and broker, its headquarters are in the North East of Scotland - close to Speyside - and it has complete control of the entire production process; from cask selection and management, through “in-house” product and packaging design to its own “under bond” bottling facilities.
