Banff – 1976/2023 Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection (70cl, 50.4%)

This Banff is a Highland single malt from the Private Collection, part of the second Recollection Series from Gordon & MacPhail, which features whiskies from closed distilleries. It was filled into a refill sherry butt on 26 October 1976 and bottled on 3 February 2023 after 46 years. The outturn was 109 bottles at 50.4%, non-chill-filtered and without added colour. The nose combines festive spice, orange and cloves with demerara sugar, then toffee, prunes and baked apple. On the palate come stewed red fruit, cinnamon, ginger and black pepper, with toasted hazelnuts, marzipan and ripe oak. The finish is medium, with citrus and nuts.
