Barons de Rothschild Rare Collection Rosé 2012 Champagne

This is a 2012 rosé Champagne from Barons de Rothschild, built on a base wine of 92% Chardonnay and 8% Pinot Noir. The grapes were picked by hand from the best sites in Champagne, and only the first pressing was used. Each vineyard was vinified separately in small 20hl stainless steel tanks, with a small share in oak. It then spent at least eight years on its lees. The colour is pale with copper glints and fine bubbles. The nose shows toasted spice and vanilla from the oak, then fresh Chardonnay and pear. The palate is broad yet lemony and crisp, and the long finish carries a pleasing bitterness.
