Barrell Craft Spirits Seagrass is a cask-strength rye blended from American and Canadian straight rye whiskeys and bottled in Louisville at around 60% ABV, uncut and non-chill filtered. It carries no age statement.
Each rye is finished separately in a different cask before the three are married: Martinique Rhum Agricole, Malmsey Madeira and apricot brandy. Barrell describes the whiskey as an ode to coastal memory, with hot sun, brisk air, dry sand and oceanside vegetation in mind.
The nose offers tropical fruit and fresh herbs over rye spice, with lychee, pear, apricot, tarragon and fennel. The palate is full-bodied, with vegetal rum character, oxidised Madeira fruit and apricot sweetness. The finish is long and warming, moving from fruit to flint and camphor.
