Basil Hayden Dark Rye is a blended rye whiskey bottled at 40% ABV. It starts with Kentucky Straight Rye, which is joined by Canadian rye from Alberta Distillers, and a splash of California-style port is added to the blend.
The nose has strawberry jam and dark cherries with oaky spice and molasses. On the palate, plum, black cherry and currant lead, supported by rye spice, caramel, light oak and a touch of dry leather. The finish turns from jammy dried fruit towards savoury dryness, ending on a lasting rye spice.
