Basil Hayden's 10 Year Old is a Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 80 proof (40%) in a 750ml bottle. It is produced at the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky.
The bourbon spends ten years in new charred American oak. The mashbill is high in rye, with 63% corn, 27% rye and 10% malted barley, a recipe that traces back to Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., who brought his rye distilling traditions to Kentucky in 1796.
The nose offers caramel buns, toffee, vanilla, toasted coconut and cocoa. The palate is buttery and soft, then rye spice, cocoa, black pepper and molasses. The finish is medium, with soft oak char, sweetness, cola and coconut sugar.
