Basil Hayden's is a high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 40% in a 375ml bottle. It is produced at the Jim Beam distillery in Clermont from a mashbill of 63% corn, 27% rye and 10% malted barley.
The name comes from an 18th-century Kentucky distiller who raised the share of rye in his bourbon. The label once carried an age statement of around eight years and moved to the 'Artfully Aged' wording in 2014.
Ripe peach, mixed berries, citrus zest and vanilla feature on the nose. The palate is soft, with vanilla, fresh peach and new wood, then cinnamon and golden raisin. The finish is short, with oak, light summer fruit and a touch of new leather.
