Basil Hayden's Cognac Cask Reserve is a Kentucky straight bourbon finished in ex-Cognac French oak barrels, bottled at 40% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The barrels were seasoned for 20 to 25 years in France's Cognac region. The base is the brand's light, spicy, high-rye bourbon, and the finish adds dried-fruit and floral notes. It is a bourbon finished in those casks, not blended with cognac.
Tasting notes describe dried apricot, grape and honey on the nose over vanilla and light rye spice. The palate is silky, with white grape, dried fig, caramel and gentle pepper, and the finish is smooth, with soft oak.
