Basil Hayden's Dark Rye is a blended American rye whiskey, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It combines Kentucky straight rye with a Canadian rye from Alberta Distillers, and California port wine is added directly to the blend rather than being used as a cask finish.
The nose offers strawberry jam and dark cherry over seasoned oak, with rye spice underneath. The palate opens with dried berries and caramel, then moves to rye spice, green apple and a little chocolate. The finish is medium in length, with dried fruit sweetness, oak and a last note of rye spice.
