Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It brings smoke to Basil Hayden's high-rye bourbon for the first time, through a finish in barrels made from hickory smoked new charred oak.
The finishing adds campfire notes to the maple sweetness and soft char of the standard bourbon.
The nose has delicate campfire and hickory smoke over maple and gentle char. On the palate, high-rye spice and soft caramel meet smoke and maple. The finish is warm and lightly smoky, with the hickory lingering alongside the rye spice.
