Basil Hayden Subtle Smoke is a Kentucky straight bourbon made with the same high-rye mash bill used for Basil Hayden.
It is given a secondary maturation in a barrel that has been toasted and lightly charred. Hickory-smoked chips are then ignited, and the smoke is pumped into the barrel, adding a gentle smokiness to the bourbon.
The flavour is described as soft char with light butterscotch.
