Benchmark Old No. 8 is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 1.75 litre bottle.
It is made to Buffalo Trace's Mash Bill #1, a low-rye, corn-dominant recipe. The spirit ages for at least 36 months in new charred American oak barrels.
The nose is light caramel with white peach, green apple and mild vanilla. The palate is mellow and caramel-sweet, with toasted oak, dried tobacco, dried cherry, cinnamon and a little chocolate. The finish is short, clean and dry, with gentle oak spice and a light peppery warmth.
