Benchmark Top Floor is a Kentucky straight bourbon at 43%, in a 750ml bottle. It is vatted from barrels taken from the top floors of Buffalo Trace Distillery's warehouses, where rising heat speeds up maturation.
It belongs to the Benchmark line from Sazerac, named after the surveyors' benchmarks of the McAfee brothers' Kentucky expeditions in the 1770s.
The nose has orange oils and Christmas spice, with buttery sweet caramel and a whisper of raw leather. The palate brings butterscotch, orange marmalade and a hint of sourdough, leading to caramel corn and subtle oak on the finish.
