Benchmark Top Floor is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle. It is made from Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #1 and matured in new charred American oak barrels.
What sets it apart is where the barrels rest: on the upper floors of the rickhouses, where wider temperature swings and more heat speed the exchange between spirit and wood, drawing in deeper oak character. It won Double Gold at the 2024 Whiskies of the World competition.
The nose has honey, brown sugar, baking spice and toasted oak. On the palate come butterscotch, caramel, citrus and apricot, and the finish dries into tobacco leaf, leather and oak char.
