BenRiach Smoky 12 Year is a peated Speyside single malt, matured for at least twelve years and bottled at 46% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It combines peated and unpeated spirit.
Three cask types are used: bourbon barrels, sherry casks and Marsala wine casks. The peat comes from Highland and Speyside sources, which gives an earthy, sweet smoke rather than a medicinal one.
The nose offers smoked vanilla, charred orange peel and toasted almonds. On the palate come dark chocolate, brown sugar, caramelised apple and smoked oak with gentle peat. The finish is long and warming, with cocoa, orange and drying smoke.
