Berry Bros & Rudd Own Selection 32 Year Old Demerara Rum, Port Mourant Still, Uitvlugt 1975 (70cl, 46%)

This is a 32 year old Demerara rum from Guyana, distilled in 1975 on the Port Mourant still at Uitvlugt distillery and bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd in 2007 at 46%, in a 70cl bottle. The still is a double wooden pot still built from Greenheart, moved to Uitvlugt in the 1950s from the closed Port Mourant distillery, and its design gives a heavy-bodied, oily distillate. The nose opens with anise and white peppercorns, then leather, liquorice and dried prunes. Coffee and ripe red cherries appear as it breathes. The palate is oily and savoury, reminiscent of olives in brine.
