Bertani Valpolicella Ripasso Valpantena 2019 (75cl, 13.5%)

This is a Valpolicella Ripasso from Bertani, a house founded in 1857, grown in the Valpantena zone of Veneto. The young Valpolicella is refermented on the skins of Amarone, which are still slightly sweet. The blend is 85% Corvina Veronese, 10% Merlot and 5% Rondinella. The wine matures in botti of 30, 54 and 75 hectolitres and in 100 hectolitre concrete tanks, then rests three months in bottle. It is deep ruby in the glass. The nose shows cherry and forest undergrowth with spice and chocolate. The palate is savoury and full-bodied with firm tannins, and the fruity finish is long.
