Bhakta 1928 Straight Rye is an American rye whiskey blended with French brandies, bottled at 45% ABV. The name refers to the Armagnac vintage of 1928 in the blend.
The mix is 60% straight rye distilled in 2018, 30% XO Calvados from Normandy and 10% vintage Armagnac. The Armagnac includes the 1928 as well as 1941, 1962, 1973 and 1996 vintages. It is produced by Bhakta Spirits, founded by Raj Peter Bhakta.
The nose has apple pie filling, caramelised sugar, toasted oak and baking spice. Rye spice meets orchard fruit, caramel apple and pear tart on the palate, and the finish is silky and warming with lingering fruit.
