Big Peat 12 Years is a peated blended malt of Islay whiskies, first launched in 2009. It comes in a 70cl bottle and draws on malts from Caol Ila, Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen, matured in casks for at least 12 years.
It is made without added colour, chill-filtration or reduction in strength.
The nose brings maritime peat, seaweed, salt, toasted dried fruit, vanilla and pear. On the palate the peat carries barbecued meat, grilled pineapple, salted butter biscuits, a touch of tobacco and black pepper. The long finish returns to sea-air peat, with toast, fruit cake and a pinch of pepper and salt.
