Black Bull 40 Year Old is a blended Scotch made from malt and grain whiskies aged between 40 and 51 years. This is Batch 7, released in 2016 and limited to 1,500 bottles. It is bottled at a cask strength of 47.6% in a 75cl bottle by Duncan Taylor in Huntly, without chill filtration or added colour.
The blend was finished in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The Black Bull name dates to 1864, and Duncan Taylor revived it in 2001.
The nose is sweet, with sherry, butterscotch, milk chocolate and citrus. The palate is smooth and gentle, with toffee apple, chocolate, grapefruit and mango, then vanilla and a hint of hazelnut. The finish is long, with a warm syrupy sweetness.
