Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon honours the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, and takes its name from the two parts of a skeleton key. Each bottle carries a brass key.
It is aged in a solera system, where tiered barrels are never fully emptied, so each bottle contains some older whiskey, including some of the last stock distilled at Stitzel-Weller before it closed in 1992. The whiskey in the system is reported to be six years and older, and it is bottled at 91 proof (45.5%).
The nose is ripe pear and apricot with vanilla and baking spice. The palate has caramel, toasted oak, dried fruit, nutmeg and light tobacco, and the finish is clean and medium in length, with vanilla, spice and leather.
