A 30-year-old Lowland single malt from Bladnoch, distilled in 1990 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as a single ex-bourbon cask, number 50.113. It comes in a 70cl bottle, and the Society named this release Tropical Goodies in a Stately Home.
Only 74 bottles were produced from the cask. Bladnoch stands near Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway and is the most southerly Scottish distillery.
The nose is led by tropical fruit, with gorse flowers, old-fashioned sweet shops, potpourri, tiger balm and waxed jackets, and a hint of old Sauternes. On the palate come dried papaya, cherry throat sweets, Gewürztraminer, sultanas soaked in calvados and a pineapple ice lolly.
