Blandy's Sercial 5 Year Old Madeira

Blandy's Sercial 5 Year Old is a Madeira made from Sercial, the least sugary of the Madeira grapes. It is fermented in steel tanks on its skins at 18 to 21°C, and the fermentation is stopped by adding brandy once the sugar level is right, after about a week. The wine then ages in American oak casks, going through the traditional estufagem process. It keeps its freshness and savoury edge, so the fruit is not smothered by sweetness. The nose is young but complex, with almonds, spring flowers, lime, wood and rancio. The palate is fresh and well structured, with dried fruit, flowers, toffee and honey, and delicate iodine and rancio notes. The finish is fresh and lasting.
