Blue Run Emerald Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey bottled at barrel proof, 58.35% ABV, with no age statement. It is a limited release.
Jim Rutledge distilled it under contract at Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort. Whiskey director Shaylyn Gammon then blended 189 barrels from three high-rye mash bills, made with 80%, 77% and 81% rye, aged in both Bardstown and Frankfort.
Butterscotch and caramel lead the nose into toasted oak and peppers. The palate brings buttercream, shishito peppers, apples and pears, then cloves and rye spice. The finish is long, with leather, oak and brown butter.
