Blue Spot is a seven-year-old Irish single pot still whiskey, bottled at a cask strength of 58.4% ABV. It is triple distilled and matured in a combination of bourbon, sherry and Madeira casks.
The name disappeared from the shelves in the 1960s, and Mitchell & Son has since relaunched it.
The nose brings ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon, followed by banana custard, apple pie and frangipane. The palate is peppery, with black and Sichuan pepper alongside vanilla, green apple, peach, lemon zest and roasted hazelnuts. The finish is creamy with milk chocolate, lingering fruit and nuts, and a touch of rum.
