Bowmore 12 Year Old Sherry Oak Cask is an Islay single malt bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The distillery has been making whisky on the island since 1779.
It differs from the standard Bowmore 12 Year Old in its maturation, which uses hand-selected Oloroso sherry casks alongside ex-bourbon barrels. The house style is gently peated and maritime, and here the smoke arrives late, after the sweetness of the sherry cask.
The nose is described as vanilla caramel, red berries and marzipan, with hints of dried fruit. On the palate there are ripe pears, lemon juice, cinnamon, toasted almonds and peaches in syrup, with the smoke building as it goes.
