This is a 20 year old Bowmore from Islay, bottled by Duncan Taylor in its Octave range. It was distilled in 1998 and matured in a sherry cask, number 3722659, before bottling in 2019 at 53.5%. The cask gave 63 bottles, each a 70cl bottle.
The nose is intense yet balanced, oily and creamy, with ripe sherry, raisins, dried figs, blueberries and dark cherries, only a mild note of smoke, then tobacco, old leather and dry oak. The palate is full, creamy and oily, with orange, honey, pickled raisins and dark chocolate.
The finish is very long, with sweetness, vanilla, raisins, chocolate and toffee, then gentle bitterness, orange and spice as the oak and smoke recede.
