Breckenridge Port Cask Finish Bourbon Whiskey (75cl, 45%)

This is a high-rye bourbon from Breckenridge Distillery in Colorado, bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The mash bill is 56% corn, 38% rye and 6% malted barley. The bourbon spends a minimum of three years in charred new American oak, then four to six months in 59-gallon tawny port casks. It is finished in batches of eight to ten barrels as suitable port casks become available, so each release is its own expression. The nose offers sultana raisin, maple syrup and subtle oak spice. On the palate come tart strawberry preserve, fig, plum, caramel and dark chocolate with warm spice, followed by a smooth, lingering finish of red fruit, toasted oak and a hint of cedar.
