This is Octomore 16.1, a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 59.3% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is made from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley, malted to 101.4 PPM, and matured for 5 years in first-fill bourbon barrels.
The nose combines sea spray and orchard fruit with dried heather, chamomile, vanilla bean, toasted almond, cedar, smoked paprika and iodine. On the palate, gentle peat smoke leads into salted caramel, honeyed melon and apricot, with cinnamon, star anise, toffee, chocolate and coconut. The finish is long, with peat smoke, black pepper, toffee and sea salt.
