Octomore 17.1 is a five-year-old Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, and the bottling that opens the Seventeen Series. It was matured in first-fill bourbon casks, which bring vanilla, pear and malt alongside intense smoke.
It is bottled at 59.7% in a 70cl bottle, without added colouring and without chill-filtration.
The nose combines vanilla custard, pear drops and malt syrup with dry, earthy smoke, oak and a hint of ash. On the palate come vanilla, pear and malt beside strong peat smoke, toasted oak and a salty note. The finish is long, dry and smoky, with earthy peat, smouldering oak and ash.
