Octomore 17.4 is a peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, malted to 108.2 ppm and bottled at 57.2% in a 70cl bottle. It was distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery, and is non-chill-filtered with no added colour.
The whisky spent seven years in first fill Oloroso casks, which add warmth, dried fruit and roasted walnuts, before a finish in new French oak that brings cinnamon and toasted oak.
The nose is earthy peat smoke with dried figs, roasted walnuts and gingerbread, plus sea spray and cocoa. On the palate, dry mineral smoke leads to dates, fruitcake, cloves and roasted coffee beans. The finish is long and warming, with peat, leather and oak spice.
