Bruichladdich – Octomore 3.1 (70cl, 59%)

Octomore 3.1 is the third main release in Bruichladdich's super-heavily-peated Octomore series, created by master distiller Jim McEwan. It is a single malt bottled at 59% in a 70cl bottle, unfiltered and in a limited edition. The peating level is 152 ppm, and the whisky was matured for five years in ex-bourbon wood. The nose offers peat smoke with medicinal notes, seaweed and iodine, over vanilla, honey and a little citrus. On the palate there is strong smoke, sea salt and peppery spice, balanced by creamy sweetness, vanilla cream, green apple and pear. The finish is long and warming, with peat smoke, salty spray and a sweet echo.
