Bruichladdich – Octomore 7.1 (70cl, 59.5%)

This is the seventh edition of Octomore from Bruichladdich on Islay, bottled at 59.5% in a 70cl bottle. At 208 ppm it is one of the most heavily peated whiskies in the world, yet it is described as light and layered, and it tastes mature despite its youth. It follows Octomore 6.1 and differs from it in peat level, strength and casks. The nose opens with sea breeze, caramel, lemon balm and pipe tobacco, then smoke, vanilla, mint and peach. The palate is smooth, sweet and then smoky, and the finish ends in gentle, lingering peat smoke.
