Octomore 7.2 is a 5 year old Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 58.5% in a 70cl bottle. It is heavily peated, at 208 ppm.
The whisky is a marriage of first-fill ex-bourbon casks and French Syrah red wine casks. It is non-chill filtered and of natural colour, a deep gold.
The notes describe a nose that is fresh, herbal and meaty, with smoked pork, sea salt, liquorice and dried red berries. The palate is fruity and sweet, then spicy, ashy smoke, with dark toffee and a hint of iodine. The finish is long, with earthy peat, dried berries, vanilla and light wine tannins.
