Octomore Edition 16.3 is a super heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, measuring 189.5 PPM. It was distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2023 at 5 years old, at a cask strength of 61.6% ABV. It is non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
The barley is Concerto, grown on Islay in the 2022 harvest at Octomore Farm. Maturation was in 88% first-fill bourbon barrels and 12% second-fill Ribera del Duero red wine casks, in warehouses beside Loch Indaal.
The nose has earthy peat smoke, black pepper, sea breeze, cherry skin and leather. The palate is oily, with charred oak, pipe tobacco, red currants and salted caramel. The finish is long, drying and smoky.
