This is Octomore Edition 17.2, a 5 year old super-heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich. The malt was peated to 81.0 PPM and made from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley of the 2019 harvest, distilled in 2020.
It spent four years in second-fill French oak casks that previously held Californian red wine and bourbon, then was finished in first-fill Port barriques. It is bottled at 59.5% (119 proof) in a 700ml bottle.
The nose brings raspberry, blackcurrant preserve, ripe stone fruit, toasted oak, clove and dry smoke. The palate is viscous and fruit-rich, with strawberry, blackberry, cassis and barley sugar, then peppery peat and lemon zest. The finish is long, with raisins.
